Staying safe while job hunting

Most employers here are exactly who they say they are. These are the things worth checking anyway.

• A real job does not charge you to apply.

  No legitimate employer asks for a fee for training, an interview, a uniform or a form. If you are asked for money, do not pay it — report the advert.

• Be careful with sensitive information.

  An employer does not need your BVN, your bank PIN or a card number to interview you. Nobody needs them before an offer.

• Read the employer details before you go anywhere.

  Check what the advert says about who is hiring, and where. Meet somewhere public if anything feels unclear.

• Tell us about anything that looks wrong.

  Reports about money and safety are looked at before anything else.
